A hackathon is a time-constrained event where individuals or teams collaborate to solve problems, brainstorm ideas, or build prototypes, often lasting from 24 to 72 hoursIt combines the concept of “hacking” (problem-solving and exploration) with a “marathon” (intense, time-limited work). Hackathons are not just for programmers anymore; they encompass a wide range of disciplines like design, marketing, and various industries, fostering collaboration and innovation.

Key Characteristics of a Hackathon:
  • Time-bound:

Hackathons have a defined start and end, typically spanning a day or two.

  • Collaborative:

Participants work together in teams to develop solutions, leveraging each other’s skills and expertise.

  • Problem-solving:

Hackathons focus on addressing specific challenges or creating innovative solutions to real-world problems.

  • Prototype Development:

Participants often aim to build a working prototype or proof-of-concept by the end of the event.

  • Competitive or Collaborative:

While some hackathons are competitive with judging and prizes, others emphasize collaboration and learning.

  • Mentorship:

Mentors are often available to provide guidance and support to teams throughout the event.

  • Diverse Participation:

Hackathons attract a wide range of individuals, including programmers, designers, marketers, and subject matter experts.
